Mitsubishi Motors commercial

I was watching Japanese commercials on TV and I thought that they were very different from American commercials so I decide to find some interesting Japanese commercials on YouTube and post them a little by little.

The first one is a commercial for the Mitsubishi Motors. This one is very emotional because the woman is going to get married tomorrow and she is driving with her dad. This commercial shows the sensitive atmosphere that the father and his daughter have when she is getting married. This commercial should attract both older men and younger women because they can think back what happened to them when they got married and feel the same atmosphere as the commercial shows.

Here is the translate for it.

I will get married tomorrow.

My father seated in the passenger seat is more talkative today.

He was telling me about my mom when she was very young and the day I was born.

Is your car exciting you?

It's been a while...

It's been a while since I updated this blog last time but I'm glad that the blog is still running and having some visitors from all over the world! I really appreciate everyone who has been interested in Japan and visiting my blog. Anyway, my life has been kind of crazy last few years because I moved back to Japan from the US two years ago and I live in Tokyo now. As you may know, Tokyo is a very busy city and there are so many things that are very interesting. I'm trying to write about what I've found interesting here in Japan so please look forward to my posts! Please also feel free to ask me anything about Japan if there are any questions. I would be glad to help you understand more about Japanese culture. I hope you enjoy my blog!

Traits of Collectivism

Japan has the collectivist culture. This description is from Wikipedia.

Traits of Collectivism

  • "We" not "me" orientation.
  • Each person is encouraged to conform to society, to do what is best for the group and to not openly express opinions or beliefs that go against it.
  • Group, family or rights for the common good are seen as more important than the rights of individuals.
  • Rules promote stability, order, obedience.
  • Strong family values
  • Fitting in or conforming to group or society is required.
  • Distinctions made between in-group and out-group.
  • More ingroups to choose from, less attachment to one specific ingroup
  • Working with others and cooperating is the norm. Refusal to cooperate and wanting to be independent or stand out is seen as shameful. Everyone must rely on others for support.

Day off for dating...

Japan's notoriously hard-working salarymen are being given a chance by the government to cut their hours in a bid to improve their health - and their fecundity. Workers who put in more than 40 hours of overtime a month will earn the right to an extra day off this month, according to a policy paper prepared by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in June. Employers will also have to pay them an extra-high rate for overtime above 30 hours, in an attempt to make companies think twice about asking their workers to burn the midnight oil. The problem of overwork is particularly severe among men in their 30s, the ministry says. About a quarter work more than 60 hours a week, according to official figures, though the real number may be higher.

Hot spring for feet!
